Newly Developed Stock Screener which uses the PEGY Ratio.

There's a newly developed Stock Screener at InvestDashboard.com.

There are many interesting filters there including Above Average Volume (for the day), Forward PE, EV to EBITDA Ratio, Beta as well as the PEGY Ratio.

The PEGY Ratio is an interesting way to evaluate whether or not a stock is growing at a reasonable price. For example, the PE might be high, but is there enough growth to justify paying for that price?

It is similar to the PEG Ratio but the PEGY Ratio includes the Yield. A PEGY Ratio of 1 or less is very good. Anything below 1.5 is still good.

PEG Ratio = (Price / Earnings) / ((5 Yr Growth %)*100)

PEGY Ratio = (Price / Earnings) / ((5 Yr Growth % + Yield %) * 100)

Here is the stock screener at InvestDashboard.com.

Undervalued Stocks with Respect to Growth and Yield (PEG+Y Ratio)

As the Stock Market including the U.S. S&P 500 Index goes down, experienced people say you should start creating a wish list of companies to buy at lower levels.

One measure of valuation is the PEG+Y Ratio which is the Forward Price Earnings Ratio divided by the Five Year Estimated Growth Rate Plus Yield:

PEG+Y = (Forward Price Earnings Ratio) / (5 Year Estimated Growth Rate + Yield)

PEGY (simpler form is the PEG Ratio) of less than 1 is a great value. A PEGY ratio of greater than 2 (or some other value like 1.5) can be considered overvalued.

Here are some PEG+Y Ratios of some popular companies:

PE to Growth Ratio for International ETFs

Vlada, from the Czech Republic (stockweb.blogspot.com), posted a great link.

Vlada looked at several international ETFs and calculated the PEG ratio (Price Earnings Ratio to Growth Ratio) based on a countries 2008 GDP growth and a countries P/E Ratio (the Economic PEG).

The countries with the highest 2008 GDP growth include China (9.3%), India (7.9%) and Russia (6.8%).

The countries with the lowest 2008 GDP growth include Italy (0.3%), the US (0.5%) and Canada (1.3%).

The countries with the lowest PE ratio are France and the U.K. (11) and Italy (11.1).

The countries with the lowest PEG ratios are China (1.6) and India (2.3).

The countries with the highest PEG ratios are Italy (37) and US (26.8)

While one could look at the Economic PEG on its own, I think one additional thing we can look into is the rate of GDP growth, or the direction of P/E ratios. At some point, will China and India growth slow? And will Italy and US Growth start to increase?

Reasonably Priced Survivor in a Bear Market Stock Investing Strategy

One Stock Market Strategy is to look at those stocks that have survived a large correction or bear market.

Near the bottom, the S&P 500 Stocks Above 50 day moving average went as low as 8% (historically very low). Just a day after the bottom, let us look at stocks that follow this criteria:
  1. Price is Above 50 Day Moving Average.
  2. Stock is less than 10% near 52 week high.
  3. Forward PE is less than 20.
  4. 5 Year Estimated Growth Rate greater than 15%
  5. (The last two entries, means Price Earnings to Growth Ratio (PEG) should be less than 1.33)

Only fourteen stocks met that criteria today using Yahoo Finance Screener:

  1. Blackrock (BLK) -- $27 Billion Financial company. Investment Manager.
  2. Raytheon (RTN) -- $27 Billion Defense Company.
